This insert can be modified for either Betrayal at House on the Hill or Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate. The only difference is the miniature sizes. Instructions on what to modify are below.

Before you get started, here are some tips:

  • If you’d like to print this page, first scroll all the way to the bottom (to load all the images) then scroll all the way back to the top (otherwise the header image will appear over every page). Then print.
  • Some pieces might have a white backing on one side. Just peel it off.
  • I’ve found that simple white glue, like Elmer’s Glue-All, works great. Wood glue is stronger, but not really necessary.
  • Assemble pieces in alphabetical or numerical order. For this set, there are both uppercase and lowercase letters, but it should be obvious what goes where.
  • Where pieces have letters or numbers engraved on them to help with assembly, you can assemble them so the engraving is hidden inside a joint. If that doesn’t seem to work, some pieces have reverse versions (namely d, f, h, s, and z).
  • You may have more pieces than you need. I make extra copies of the small or fragile items, in case they’re lost or damaged in shipping.
  • You never need to use force when assembling. That being said, sometimes there can be little bits on the edge of a piece that didn’t get cut through, and you can remove those with a knife or just by bending them off.

Base Plate and Miniature Spaces

  • You’ll start by assembling the upper-right tray, pieces A through K. ‘F’ and ‘G’ are flat spacers to be glued against the walls of the upper-right compartment.
  • Insert pieces L, M, N, and O.
  • Glue the triangular piece with ‘Yellow’ marked on it into the corner formed by L and M. Then glue the # piece on top of that.
  • Upper-left miniature spaces: Try to do this all at once, before the glue dries.
    • Glue the ? and & pieces on top of the base plate.
    • Glue the ‘Green’ piece on top of that (all the way on the right)
    • Glue the $ piece on top of the ‘Green’ piece.
    • Now is a good time to do the ‘Modifying’ section below.
    • Insert piece X (also marked ‘White’) into the slots that go through all the layers.
    • Finally, glue piece Y to the right side of piece X, forming the side wall of the dice space.

Note that there is no front wall to the dice space. The organizer uses the room tile tray to secure the dice.

Modifying for House on the Hill or Baldur’s Gate

For Betrayal at House on the Hill:

  • Raise the Purple miniature one layer
    • Glue the separate ‘Purple’ circle on top of the engraved ‘Purple’ circle, so it fills in that circular space.
    • Glue the triangle piece marked ‘Purple (HotH Only) on top, text-down.
  • Raise the Blue miniature one layer
    • Glue the larger separate ‘Blue’ circle on top of the larger engraved ‘Green’ circle.
    • Glue the piece with a circle cut out, marked ‘HotH Only’ on top, text-down.
    • You should now have a small ‘Blue’ circle on the left, and a small ‘Green’ circle on the right.

For Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate:

  • Raise the Blue miniature one layer (Halflings are short!)
    • Glue the smaller separate ‘Blue’ circle on top of the smaller engraved ‘Green’ circle.
    • Glue the piece marked ‘BG Only’ on top, text-down.
    • You should now have a large ‘Green’ circle on the left, and a small ‘Blue’ circle on the right.

Room Tile and Card Trays

  • The room tile tray uses pieces 0-5 + a base plate. Note that there are two ‘2’ pieces, two each of ‘3’ and ‘4’, and four ‘5’ pieces.
  • The Event card tray uses pieces 6-8 + a base plate. Glue them together to make a box.
    • Note that there are two ‘7’ sidewall pieces. They are identical.
  • The Item and Omen card tray uses pieces 9-12 + a base plate.
    • Note that there are two ’10’ pieces, which are the reverse of each other. Just remember to hide the number inside the joint.
      1. Glue the back (9) and walls (10) to the base place.
      2. Glue all three ’11 (Spacer)’ pieces to the back plate, such that their text is facing the back plate. This pushes the Omens forward a little for easier access.
      3. Slide piece 12 into the slots on the walls and the back plate, and secure with a bit of glue.
      4. Glue the top (13) onto the box, hiding the numbers inside the joint.

General Token Tray

This is certainly the most intricate part of the build, with many small pieces that fit precisely in their slots. Remember to always hide any engraved assembly letters inside their joints.

Glue in order:

  1. The long piece, a.
  2. Three vertical dividers, b, on the left side.
  3. Three vertical dividers, c, on the right side.
  4. All the side borders:
    1. One ‘d’ on each side.
    2. Two ‘e’ on each side.
    3. One ‘f’ on each side.
    4. One ‘g’ on each side.
    5. One ‘h’ on each side.
  5. Extra walls for the triangle and hexagon tokens:
    1. Four ‘i’ pieces for the triangles.
    2. Four ‘j’ pieces for the hexagons.
      1. Make sure the letters are hidden!
  6. The top plate.
    1. It can be tricky to get all the ‘i’ and ‘j’ pieces into the top plate, but you can get it!
  7. Three ‘z’ pieces, two single L-shaped and one U-shaped.

I organize my square tokens like this: all the Plant and Lock tokens go in the first slot, every token that starts with ‘S’ goes in the second slot, and all the rest go in the third slot.

Monster Token Tray

Glue in order:

  1. Apply some glue to the lower plate (the one with ‘Monsters’ on the right). Add glue to your four ‘k’ pieces and insert those through the upper and lower plates to align them.
  2. This is my favorite part, it’s really satisfying.
    1. Insert both ‘l’ pieces.
    2. Insert four ‘m’ pieces.
    3. Insert both ‘n’ pieces.
    4. Place five ‘Gap Cap’ pieces on top, text-side down. Nice!
  3. Glue the side ‘o’ pieces. I recommend being thorough with the glue here, since the bottom of ‘o’ is thin.
  4. Piece ‘p’ bridges the upper and lower plates.
  5. Glue piece ‘q’ in the center, then slide the W-shaped piece ‘r’ over it.
  6. Glue both ‘s’ pieces in place, ensuring the engraving is hidden.

And you’re done!

Let the glue dry completely – don’t get excited to try it out, and accidentally glue your tokens into the trays.

House on the Hill: This organizer fits inside the Widow’s Walk box. It’s your choice whether to permanently glue it in place.

Baldur’s Gate: If you want your insert to be snug for storage, you’ll need to stack up some cardboard underneath the insert, or keep a small towel or something on hand that you can place on top of the insert to fill in the extra space. I’ve actually had good success with using USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Boxes, as they’re about the right height.

Packing For Storage

  1. Set the ‘Explorer Tokens’/’Adventurer Tokens’ cover in place.
  2. Place the storage cover on the General Token Tray, and set that in the upper-right corner.
  3. Place the storage cover on the the Monster Token Tray and set it next to the other tray.
  4. Set the Room Tile Tray in place beneath the Dice space. The ground floor landing sits across the three stacks.
  5. Set the Event, Item, and Omen Card Trays in place on the left. The order doesn’t matter, but the opening should face up (toward the miniature spaces).
  6. Place the big character cards in place, and each miniature into their own slot.
  7. Check that everything is sitting flat at the same height.
  8. Stack the rulebooks. I’ve found that the best way to do this is to start with the thicker books. Place one book so it’s spine is in the upper-right corner, then one with the spine in the lower-right corner, then upper-left, then lower-left. Place the remaining rulebooks on the left and the turn tracker on the right, then put the lid on. Satisfying!
