Please let me know if anything doesn’t make sense. It can be a challenge for me to explain my own knowledge about the chest and write it down in a way that anyone can follow. Email barry@brightbearlaser.com

Where to Begin

You have several options for how much you want the chest to be assembled before it ships to you. At the bottom of this page, there are links to instructions for each part of the chest assembly. Depending on the assembly you ordered, here’s where to start.

  • Completely Do-It-Yourself
    • You’ll start at the beginning, with Outer Chest Assembly.
  • Outer Box Pre-Assembled
    • Start with Main Layer Deck Storage.
  • Completely Assembled (except for removable boxes)
    • Start with Removable Bit Boxes. You will only receive bags 5, 6, and 7.
  • Completely Assembled (including removable boxes)
    • Go directly to the Nameplate instructions. You will only receive bag 7.
  • 100% Complete (including nameplates)
    • You have nothing to assemble. Just read the page about using the chest.

Pre-Assembly Advice

  • If you’d like to print this page, first scroll all the way to the bottom (to load all the images) then scroll all the way back to the top (otherwise the header image will appear over every page). Then print.
  • Some pieces may have a protective white paper backing. Simply peel it off and discard it.
  • Spread glue along the edges that will make contact. It doesn’t take a lot, but adds strength. White glue is usually fine, but there are a few places where I recommend wood glue.
  • After everything looks good, you can reinforce the important seams with wood glue. Lay down a line of wood glue along the seam, use your finger or a stick to press the glue into the seam, then use a damp paper towel to clean up any excess.
  • Almost every piece has numbers or letters engraved on it to identify it. You will always be able to hide the engraving inside a joint, or against a wall. If that doesn’t seem to be working, you may have the piece backwards.
  • During assembly, remember to press pieces down firmly and take a look at their bottom edge. Make sure they sit flush with the base and don’t have a visible gap.
  • A 12″ bar clamp will be very helpful, more are better. Home Depot has a set of 4 clamps for $20; Amazon sells them individually for $12.

Parts List

You should receive your kit in eight bags. I do the sorting by hand, so it’s entirely possible that a few pieces could end up in the wrong bags.

Unbagged Items

In addition to the bags, you should have about 18 long, flat pieces that wouldn’t fit in bags, as well as six large base plates:

  • Lower card storage layer (two baseplates)
  • Lower drawer
  • Removable token tray

Outer Chest Parts

  • Front panel (with rectangular cutout)
    • Drawer front (fits in that cutout)
  • Rear panel, marked as rear
  • Left and right sides, marked as left and right
  • Lid front and rear panels, marked front and rear
  • Lid left and right sides, unmarked. (Not important which one goes on which side, but you can match the wood grain)
