These instructions are for new Storage Trunk purchases; if you’re buying an upgrade kit for a trunk from 2016-2018, your instructions are here.

General Instructions

  • If you’d like to print this page, first scroll all the way to the bottom (to load all the images) then scroll all the way back to the top (otherwise the hovering webpage header will appear over every printed page). Then print.
  • Remove the white paper masking from all pieces.
  • Where there are engraved letters on the edge of the pieces, assemble them so that the letters are hidden inside the joint.
  • Either wood glue or white glue is a good option. Wood glue is stronger and less likely to break. If there is a break, white glue will break cleanly without damaging the wood, so it can be quickly reassembled. I generally use wood glue, but if you’re not totally sure about your assembly skills, white glue has the benefit of drying clear and being easily cleaned up, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a little imprecise.
  • I like to assemble boxes by laying them out flat on the table (similar to the diagrams below), pushing their joints together, running a line of glue along the joint, then folding them up into a box so the glue is spread inside the joint.
  • Bar clamps are great, but not required.
  • If something isn’t working, double-check that you have the correct pieces, and try turning them around. Most of the pieces can only be assembled one way.
  • Click images to enlarge them.

A: Large Card Trays

B-D: Condition Tray, Preludes Tray, Personal Missions Tray

E: Long Token Tray

F-G: Epic Monsters and Gate Token Trays

  • The Epic Monsters tray also includes a front space for larger tokens, such as first player and expedition markers.
  • The Gate Tokens tray includes a space for Mythos tokens, and a thin front slot to hold an active Rumor or ongoing effect.

H-I: Small Card Tray

J: Investigator Tokens

K: Clue Tray, with Lid

L: Monster Cup and Lid

  • Note: the foam has been modified; glue the base, then the long walls second, then the short walls third. There are instructions on the wood.

M: Ancient Ones & Investigator Card Tray

N: Health, Sanity, Misc. Tokens and Dice

O-P: Accessories Tray and Ancient One Stand

  • You can store either one of these in the trunk, just not both at once. The Ancient One stand doesn’t hold anything during storage, so it would be safe to carry separately.

Gate/Monster Stands, Customization, Additional Pieces

  • You’ll also receive a bag with an extra latch, screws, and pins for the front handle. Use these to replace parts that wear out, or install them now with the third latch in the center, to make the box more secure.

New Additions (April 2021)

  • Test out your trunk for a while without the extra dividers in before gluing anything down.

Putting It Away (Layer By Layer)

Laser-Cut Parts for the Trunk Itself

These parts come pre-installed, so you don’t need these instructions. They’re here for reference.

Care and Use

The insert is designed to fit tightly, to prevent tokens and cards from falling out of their slots. You can store your game on its side, or put it in your car or game bag, and nothing will fall out of place.

Be careful and use common sense; with all the expansions, the total weight of the trunk is nearly 25 pounds, and it’s held shut by two latches. I haven’t had an issue with the strength of the trunk, but I do recommend you check your latches, screws, leather, and rivets occasionally for looseness or fatigue. I recommend you carry the case with two hands. When carrying it by the handle, pick it up gently, carry it in a stable way, then set it down gently. Only carry it by the handle for brief periods.

For extra security, if I’m going to be transporting the game, I keep a braided elastic belt wrapped around the middle of my trunk, going under the handle. Here’s a belt that will work. Since these belts stretch, get the smallest size, and pull it tight around your trunk so that the elastic keeps the trunk closed. I haven’t had any trouble with the latches on the trunk, but the thought of forgetting to secure the latches, and then the lid opening and throwing 2500+ cards and tokens across a sidewalk is worth an extra step to me.
