I’ve had the pleasure of working with West Coast Megagames to enhance their productions as they bring Megagames to California. A Megagame is a large-format, semi-freeform game played over the course of a day or a weekend, with 40, 60, or even 100+ players taking actions at once.
As a fan of XCOM, I thought that laser-cut components would be a great addition to Watch the Skies. In particular, during an early planning session, I suggested that I could build a huge, magnetic map of the world to be the centerpiece of the game. It took more late nights and improvised solutions than I would have liked, but on game day, this four-foot-diameter globe, coated in steel and the game map, got a great reaction.
