- I recommend wood glue for everything here; you’re going to want a strong structural connection.
- Remove all non-red wood from your box, including the card tray dividers. You can do this by wedging a flat-head screwdriver into the seam, then prying the wood forward to detach it from the box wall. Remember to get the wood under the front lip, too!
- Glue the new black-colored rear piece in place. It should fit under the red wood in the rear of the box, making the rear wall roughly flat.
- Glue the black-colored sides in. With the latches facing you (as if you were opening the box), the unmarked wall goes on your left, and the one marked ‘Dream Portal Tokens’ goes on your right. Apply wood glue to the back side of each piece, and push these pieces flat against the bottom of the box, and as far forward (toward the latches) as possible. Clamp and let dry.
- Check that all of the wood is flat against the bottom of the box, and also flat against the rear of the box. If the bottom feels springy (meaning that it’s not firmly attached to the wall), brace or clamp it down. You can lay the box down so that the wall you’re working on it on the bottom, then place weights or canned food on top of it to hold it down.
- Clamp or brace as best you can, and let this all dry.
The long piece with ‘Storage Design by Barry Figrim’ is designed to be glued to the bottom of the box, not to the inside. It’s optional, not structurally important, but I appreciate if you add my ‘signature’ to my work!
If you received four small, black plates, these aren’t needed. They’re used to raise the rear hinges if you need to replace the red wood inside the lid, but if your trunk was already working before you ordered the upgrade kit, you don’t need to do that modification.
